Frequently Asked Questions
How much has GDPR collected in fines?
Over €4.3 billion since enforcement began in May 2018. The largest single fine was €1.2B against Meta in 2023. Most fines are issued for illegal data transfers, insufficient consent, and inadequate data security.
What are my rights under CCPA?
California residents have the right to know what data is collected, request deletion, opt out of data selling, and non-discrimination for exercising rights. 66% of Californians have used these rights at least once. Similar rights exist in 16 states as of 2024.
Is there a federal US privacy law?
No. As of 2024, no comprehensive federal consumer data privacy law exists. The American Data Privacy and Protection Act (ADPPA) has stalled in Congress. This leaves a patchwork of state laws — and companies exploit inconsistencies across state lines.
